Sunday, here in Australia and New Zealand is ANZAC Day. This is a celebration much like our USA Memorial Day. Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The grandchildren had a cook-off at their school today, so last night after we arrived, they were baking the Anzac Biscuits (cookies). We tasted their results and they were quite good. We can only hope they are winners in the school bake-off.
ANZAC Biscuits are a sweet biscuit popular in Australia and New Zealand, made using rolled oats, flour, coconut, sugar, butter, golden syrup, bicarbonate of soda and boiling water. Anzac biscuits have long been associated with the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) established in World War I.
It has been claimed the biscuits were sent by wives to soldiers abroad because the ingredients do not spoil easily and the biscuits kept well during naval transportation. Today, ANZAC Biscuits are manufactured commercially for retail sale and are popular in Australia and New Zealand. Here the grandies are ready for school with their biscuits.
